Last Tuesday feels like a long time ago. We here in America have been through a tumultuous period of emotional upheaval and intensity from an unexpected election result.
In uncertain times – personal or global – we can feel powerless, anxious and even afraid.
But here’s what I know:
Sometimes all external sources of comfort and security have to be stripped away before we’re left with no choice but to tune into and re-connect with that unshakeable, indestructible source of infinite love, truth and safety within us.
That is real power.
This election – whether you live in America or not – is a call to leadership for women. Now more than ever, women need to own their power and their voice, step up as leaders and be, as Gandhi said, the change they wish to see in the world.
We don’t have time to play small anymore.
Playing bigger could mean any manner of things: write that book, start your business (or up-level it) have that difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding with a family member, support more local, women-owned businesses or stop body-shaming yourself.
Here are my recommendations:
- Honor your emotions at all times:
Stay with your feelings, no matter how uncomfortable. Learn the difference between secondary and primary emotions so you can ease out of emotional overwhelm and into the intelligence of your feelings faster. So-called “negative” emotions like anger, sadness, grief offer immense opportunities for growth and expansion. - Friend your body:
If you’re not in total 100% acceptance of your body and her wisdom, you’re leaking energy and wasting time. If you’ve got an inner critic that continues to judge/shame your body, it’s time to let her go. As women disconnecting with our body can plummet our self-esteem and emotional/mental health. - Release the desire to be a ‘good girl’:
There’s a famous saying: “To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing”. In the book ‘The Top Five Regrets of the Dying’, people on their death-bed said:
1. “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.”
If you believe in and stand for something, please speak up. - Purge/declutter:
What (or who) needs to be released in your life that isn’t serving your highest good? Facebook friends, unnecessary material possessions, habits that aren’t serving you, any self-limiting beliefs. Release the unnecessary so the necessary, fresh and vital have a chance to flow into your life. - Crack your money code:
We need wealth to move into women’s hands. But thousands of years of being dependent and in lack has made us unable and unwilling to embrace the beautiful energy of wealth and abundance. It’s time to change that. - Support the sisterhood:
the election brought to the forefront the deep healing that still needs to take place within women. The mother wound is staring us in our faces, begging to be healed. We all need each other right now. No one is free when others are oppressed, especially our sisters. - Look in the mirror:
this election has created an external atmosphere of division, hatred, untrustworthiness. This is a great time to look within and ask if there are parts of you that you hate, judge, feel shameful about? It’s time to release the shame and move towards your true nature.
Meditate:
I always say inner peace is our biggest contribution to world peace. If we’re not centered, grounded and anchored into our inner strength, wisdom and power, our external efforts to do good by stepping up will not be sustainable. If you live in Orlando, come and meditate with us sisters for our monthly Women’s Mediation and Spiritual Development Class today at Elevate Yoga Center at 730pm.
I’ll be talking about these recommendations in more detail in the weeks to come. For now, please join me in the private FB group The Sisterhood of Radiant Leaders and share how you can be supported.
My love and power to you xo
