Period pain. Nobody wants it. Most of us get it anyway. Almost 60% women suffer from complications in their menstrual cycle, including back aches, cramps, bloating and soreness. This is also the one issue I receive the most inquiries about so today I want to introduce a yoga pose that will bring relief. Marjari asana or cat pose is a simple but effective Yoga pose to incorporate into your daily schedule and has several benefits:
- It loosens up the spine, making it more supple and flexible. A healthy spine ensures hormones are regulated and balanced.
- It’s great for organs of the lower abdmoninal region, specially the digestive and reproductive systems.
- It brings relief from menstrual cramps almost immediately.
Kneel down on all fours, with your wrists placed under your shoulders and knees under your hips.
Exhale and curl your spine (yes, like a cat) and bring your chin to your chest.
Inhale and arch the back as far as is comfortable, lifting your chin up.
Repeat four to ten times.
Menstrual discomfort and hormonal imbalances in general are a much bigger subject that I’d like to cover in the days to come. There’s nutrition, traditional healing techniques, emotional health, our relationship with our femininity and so much more. I’m starting a new category called ‘Loving My Period’. Any blog post on this subject will be added to it for ready reference.
