A healthy hearty breakfast might be the most important health decision you’ll probably make. Skipping breakfast is particularly dangerous for women because the blood sugar crash disrupts our hormonal balance significantly, resulting in other health challenges.
The additional ten minutes to rustle up a wholesome can make all the difference between a good day and an awful one.
Eating breakfast revs up your metabolism and results in your body burning more calories. It is the most important thing you can do to maintain a healthy weight. When you skip breakfast, your body gets into conservation mode (it hasn’t had any fuel for 8-10 hours by now), slowing your metabolism and as a result, burning less calories. The low blood sugar also results in feelings of sluggishness, lack of mental clarity and an overall “meh” mood. Women who skip breakfast even once a week increase their risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 20%
Here are some other great reasons to load up on a healthy breakfast:
- Maintain a healthy body weight
- Less vulnerability to cravings
- More likely to choose healthy foods through the day
- Enhanced mineral and vitamin intake
- Clearer thinking
- Enhanced strength and endurance to engage in physical activity
- Lower cholesterol levels
- Better mood and temperament
If there’s one habit you want to incorporate to get healthier and happier, it’s probably this one.
And here’s one of my favorite breakfast recipes: an indian take on the usual (blah) scrambled eggs 😉
Savoury Scrambled Eggs
• 3 eggs
• 1/2 ripe tomato
• 1/2 scallion bunch
• 1/2 bell pepper
• handful chopped cilantro
• salt and pepper to taste
•  1/2 tsp turmeric
