I received an email from a woman yesterday. She wrote:
“I did a meditation on Friday and was really into it but right after I came out of it, I felt like crying. I was concentrating on breathing in and letting out bad energy. Do you think it was the bad energy leaving me?”
If you’ve ever felt terrible after meditation, then take heart. It happens to everyone!

Something powerful happens when we begin meditating, but it doesn’t feel good or empowering at first. Most people give up at this phase but my love, remember this:
It gets worse before it gets better.
In this 5-minute video, I’ll be talking about:
- The body-mind connection
- How it shows up in your yoga practice
- How it shows up (way more subtly) in your meditation practice
- Three recommendations to deal with these funky feelings
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
Although meditation can stir things up, it’s one of the most important practices to tap into our intuition, creativity and productivity. In my 4-week online course I teach four foundational practices that can move women from overwhelm and enjoying more time, energy and freedom. Check it out here.

Thank you for this video, it makes sense that its possibly unresolved issues that are surfacing. I meditate in the morning and sometimes I feel so drained afterwards, like a light switch has been turned off in my head ! I then have s 20 minute sleep to recover ! Would this be the same thing ?

Hi Vera-ann, yes you are experiencing the same moving and shifting of energy. There could be other factors involved as well. Are you getting enough sleep at night? Are your physical and vital energy levels high? These can make us feel sleepy during meditation. I might make another video answering this! Thanks for stopping by. Much love xo

I used to feel really anxious when I first started meditating…right about when I was deeply relaxed and feeling awesome. Then BAM I would get all anxious. I wanted to quit meditating, but I kept on sitting there, breathing deeply, and trusting the process. And sure enough I don’t feel anxious anymore! Thank you for bringing this issue to light – it’s very important!

Years ago when I began to meditate, I was the one scene with Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love. Shutting off the mental chatter was overwhelming. 😉 Much love Natasha

Each meditation is unique and healing in whatever form arises. I have been meditating for a long time and still can have a day where I can’t shut off the thoughts. I tell myself it is helpful no matter what I feel. Thanks Puja for this piece!
